The project has been brought to life just weeks before the ‘Legends of Lightning’ tournament was announced.
The project founders are Roland a.k.a. @rolznz, Juan Gomez, a bitcoin and Lightning enthusiast from Colombia and Rene Aaron, a Lightning developer from Germany.
Aaron, Bolf.fun tournament veteran is also known for being the creator of the lightning tip widget used on bitcoinnews.com.
Lightsats.com emerged as the winner of the Legends of Lightning tournament on the global adoption track taking home a prize of 100 million satoshis, or one full bitcoin.
The Legends of Lightning tournament was hosted by the bolt.fun community, with the goal of supporting and challenging projects that are working to increase adoption of the Lightning Network worldwide. Over 70 different projects participated and multiple prizes on two different project tracks where to be won.
Lightsats impressed the judges with their lightning voucher app, which aims to make it easier for users to gift sats over the Lightning Network. The app allows anyone to create a ‘gift’ or voucher and load it with any Lightning wallet.
The use of the Lightning Network has grown significantly in recent years, as more and more people seek out fast and efficient ways to send and receive digital payments. The network is designed to be a decentralized, peer-to-peer payment system that allows users to make transactions without the need for intermediaries. This makes it well-suited for small and micro transactions, as well as for transactions that need to be completed quickly.

“Welcome to Legends of Lightning, a new online global tournament for makers to learn, connect, collaborate, and build innovative applications and tools with bitcoin and lightning. From now until 7th December makers can accelerate their bitcoin projects through mentorship in design, development, and lightning integration. Forming teams to hack on new or existing projects, makers can show off their progress, activity, and updates as they #BuildInPublic – competing for up to ~$60,000 (3 BTC) in prizes.
BOLT?FUN has partnered with a number of meetups, hackathons, and workshops to provide participants the opportunity to brainstorm, design, build, and accelerate their projects over the course of the tournament. Whether your project is an open-source public good, or a business that you’re looking to build, we want to encourage their longevity and continued development of projects. We’ve partnered up with funding specialists, including VCs firms like Fulgur Ventures, or grant platforms like Geyser and Open Sats to help you figure out your next steps.
At the end of the tournament, our judges will evaluate all projects entered. The top entries from our two tracks (Global Adoption and Building for Africa) will be selected for the semi-finals, where they will have the chance to refine and pitch their projects on demo day (6th December).
