Bitcoin Fans Send Thousands of Sats To Michael Saylor Via Lightning

Bitcoin fans keep sending 21 Satoshis (0.00000021 BTC) to Michael Saylor, since MicroStrategy has enabled Lightning addresses.

MicroStrategy, founded by Michael Saylor, has recently enabled a unique bitcoin lightning address linked to his company email.

The new feature allows users to conveniently send bitcoin to commonly used online identifiers, like email addresses or usernames, without the need for QR codes or complex strings of characters.

Now everyone can now send bitcoin to Michael Saylor via [email protected].

Saylor posted a screenshot showing a constant flow of bitcoin tips from his supporters, each tip worth 21 satoshis. 21 is the favorite number of Bitcoiners and a gesture pointing to the scarcity of bitcoin — that there will ever be 21 million bitcoins, not more.

Compared to bitcoin on-chain transactions, Lightning balances and transactions offer a higher degree of privacy. Therefore, it is not feasible to backtrack and analyze MicroStrategy’s or Saylor’s transactional records to assess the extent to which bitcoin enthusiasts are contributing to Saylor’s wealth, already amounting to $1.2 billion.

As of Monday evening, Saylor’s screenshot indicated that he had received 7,985 sats ($2.40) in bitcoin tips, and it’s likely that he has received additional tips since then. It’s worth noting that MicroStrategy, under Saylor’s leadership, owns more bitcoin than any other publicly traded company globally, with 140,000 BTC ($4.2 billion) in its portfolio.
